Parade's main obstacle to winning is that it has limited appeal. As a dark musical, it is a turn off to the voters who prefer lighthearted theatre. This does not mean that a dark show can't win, but it needs strong support from the voterws who prefer darker shows.. and Parade split that crowd between those who think it is beyond brilliant and those who think it is a mess due to either Brown's score or Prince's direction. This is not to say it won't win, just that, in terms of how I see the numbers, it is a long shot.

Meanwhile, the positive word on The Civil War is surprisingly strong. So that show just may pull an upset (well, an upset to people like me who equate Wildhorn with the Bubonic Plague).

But, hey, it's still April, so there's plenty of times for the odds to change.
