We've been having some very interesting discussions about this new musical (I
still haven't seen it, so I haven't participated). But I did see last weekend
on Lifetime (yes, I admit, I watch "television for women"....) the 1988 TV
movie based on the same incident, called "The Murder of Mary Phagan." The
four-hour telefilm starred Peter Gallagher as Leo Frank (not the most obvious
choice, but he was excellent as always). But the film really belonged to Jack
Lemmon as the governor.

I wonder if anyone out there has seen both to compare. The film gave Frank
very little screen time, opting instead to focus on the Governor's tireless
quest to uncover the truth, a quest that effectively ended his career.

The film was very well acted, though it probably could have told the story in
less than four hours. The cast included Daniel Benzali, Rebecca Miller, Robert
Protsky, and Kevin Spacey. Definitely worth looking for.
